Our Free Saturday Art program is back! Each month, The Arts Center in Orange presents fun, family-friendly art workshops designed encourage individual and community creativity. All are welcome to this free workshop, but space is limited, so register today:

May’s activity is fuxicos, an art form from Northeastern Brazil. Leader of the Fuxico Project and Orange-based artist Davi Leventhal describes fuxicos as fabric flowers, which are used to embellish everyday items. Even though they are commonly found on tablecloths, pillows, and blankets, they have also appeared on fashion runways. Sometimes called ‘Suffolk Puffs’ or ‘Fabric Yo-Yos’, fuxicos are simple to make and add a charmingly handmade touch wherever they are used.

The goal of the Fuxico Project is to engage and enliven communities while sharing the fuxico tradition with the world. Each fuxico made through the project represents a connection made and a community strengthened.

Join Davi Leventhal at The Arts Center on Saturday, May 22 at 11 a.m. for this international-yet-local, socially distanced-but-together project. Plan to spend 90 minutes creating beautiful fuxicos with your pod. We provide the supplies – you supply the creativity.

For more information about Davi Leventhal and fuxicos, please visit the Fuxico Project’s website.
