JANE
SKAFTE

Jane Skafte is a painter with a background in textiles, holding a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA in Fibers from Syracuse University. Her early work as a textile designer and product designer continues to inform her approach, emphasizing color and pattern.

Jane has produced museum reproductions for the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC; the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA; and for the catalog and gift shop at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.

Alongside Jane’s work as a watercolorist, she has taught at James Madison University and at local community colleges, and currently teaches from her studio at the McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. Teaching and creating are intertwined in Jane’s work, each reinforcing a commitment to close observation, experimentation, and the translation of natural forms into a personal visual language.
